Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

The ELCA resulted from a union of three North American

Lutheran church bodies in 1982: The American Lutheran

Church, the Association of Evangelical Lutheran

Churches and the Lutheran Church in America. It currently has 5,149,668 baptized members in 10,851 congregations, 8 seminaries, 28 colleges and universities, 28 high schools and 265 elementary schools nationwide. Its 2001 budget is $83.5 million with total income of all congregations in excess of 2.25 billion (1999 statistics). More can be found at
