Caring for Creation
Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasanton, California believes that we are called to care for God's creation. In fact, we are commanded in Genesis 2:15 to "keep the earth."
The 1993 the ELCA declared, "Humans, in service to God, have special roles on behalf of the whole of creation. Made in the image of God, we are called to care for the earth as God cares for the earth.” (ELCA, “Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope, and Justice,” 1993).
The ELCA has extensive beliefs on our duty in this regard. Please click here for a much more in depth statement from the ELCA.
Trinity embraces this calling. In the midst of a historic California drought, we have stopped watering our lawn. We are, in fact, cutting water usage as much as possible across the board. As the summer progresses, the image to the left will get more and more dated.
We have recently undertaken a major project and have embraced Solar. The satellite image to the left shows the results of this effort. Our electricity bill is virtually zero as we rely on the panels and the abundance of solar energy that God has provided us.
Please keep with us God's calling to care for his creation. Together we can be stewards of this wonderful planet.
